I discovered a new app/community: Slowly. I really like the premise: a digital version of an old-fashioned pen pal, complete with stamp collecting and really long wait times (hours, not days) between messages. This could be fun :)

I got my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine yesterday. I was feeling kind of lethargic yesterday afternoon and my shoulder is pretty sore this morning. But, I am looking forward to having all of this behind us!

Sometimes I wonder about the obsession with #productivity. Why is that the thing we’re supposed to care about? Why is maximizing #productivity a goal worth pursuing?

A quick mountain bike ride today, the first in quite a while. I felt good, but out of shape. The recent rain has made everything nice and green. I should have taken my phone to snap a few pictures.

How many “today’s the day” days does it take until it really is “the day?”

I have always found it odd that we ever used the word “conservative” to refer to people like Rush Limbaugh. Sure, a small aspect of his schtick might fall into that political “box,” but everything else about him (and those whom he inspired) is the opposite of “conservative.”

One of the highlights of my day is the little badge on DailyArt, reminding me to stop for a few moments and look at some art.

I keep wishing I had an exit strategy out of my current situation. I feel trapped by a political system I despise, an academic culture I am starting to question, and an overall feeling of “ugh” about nearly everything around me.

I am generally happy with iA Writer (and Pages when iA isn’t the right tool), but I am finding Craft to be a really interesting, exciting app.

This is always a nice feeling, no matter how fleeting!

In French, Groundhog Day is “Jour de la marmotte,” which I think I like better.

One of the funny quirks of living in Southern California: today, we had to discuss if we should go to the beach or go to the mountains to play in the snow.

The neurotic side of my brain can’t figure out which way to organize these icons. Should they be aligned by color (as they are now) or by function (like they perhaps should be)?

I just gave a quick “Intro to Markdown” presentation to a handful of other professors. They seemed to “get it,” which is good. Hopefully they will find a way to use it. I use it all the time, including right here in Micro.blog :)

We just rebooked flights to Brussels (originally planned for December 2020, but canceled due to COVID). Fingers crossed that we’ll be in the clear in June 2021! 🤞
